Q: Diabetes Research?
Why should the U.S. Congress support diabetes research to find a cure for Type 1 diabete???
I need help for this thing for school....
A: I know you said this was for school and I have to be honest, it REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. My son who is 8 has type 1 diabetes. Maybe for these kids don't have to get 8+ shots a day. For they can live normal lives and not have to worry about what they eat or how much they run around. For they can just be a kid for crying out loud!!!! For the millions of kids, and adults, who have this disease!!! No maybe it isn't life threatening, as cancer or some other diseases, but it is still a disease that affects soooo many people.
Sorry, this probably isn't much help. Here is a link to the American Diabetes Association message board called 'The Place for Parents'. Ask this question there, make sure you say it is for school, or you may get alot of hateful answers. There are alot of parents on there all who have kids with type1. These are our children, and all of us would do anything to get rid of this stupid disease called diabetes for them. If these parents can't tell you why Congress should support research for a cure for type 1, no one can. http://community.diabetes.org/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&webtag=adaparents
God bless!
Q: How to get sponsers for a walk/run for diabetes awarness and research?
Hi I am starting a walk/run for diabetes Research, and diabetes awareness. I was wondering how i get sponsors and what do sponsors do lol im so new to this thing
A: Sponsors can provide funds to help support the cost of your run/walk. They can also donate products and/or services that you need for your walk/run (this is called gifts in-kind). They might be willing to collect donations from customers for your cause. They also might be willing to form a team to participate in your walk/run. Support by sponsors is extremely helpful.
If your walk/run is in support of a nonprofit organization, talk with the organization about approaching companies they already have a relationship with. Next, consider contacting businesses that have a connection to diabetes. These could include medical centers, hospitals, pharmacies, doctors, drug reps, medical supply companies. Finally, contact your local businesses. With the economy down, they need you as much as you need them.
Be prepared to discuss with the potential sponsor the impact your walk/run and the organization you are supporting can have. Discuss the benefits the company will receive by supporting your walk/run. Have a great thought out proposal handy to discuss (it may contain one or more options).
Have a great time preparing and conducting the walk/run!
Q: what to major in college to research diabetes?
i am a junior in highschool and i would like to go to college and become a nurse and to be able to work with researching diabetes to help make medications and try to find cures what would be courses to take in highschool and in college and what would be a major to go into to be able to follow through with these goals i would like to start preparing.
A: If you are interested in diabetes research, then aim higher than a nurse! With some (lots) of hard work, then you can actually become the researcher.
To get into diabetes (or other medical) research, you will need a PhD. There are a couple of different ways to go about it. The most popular would be to pursue a dual MD/PhD program. This is no easy task, however, so you'll have to maintain spectacular grades through college. Alternatively, you can seek a PhD in Biological Sciences or Molecular biology or some similar field. As you finish college, the path you would like to take should be a lot clearer.
Luckily, each of those career paths have the same beginning: strong performance in the sciences at the college level. Your best bet will be to pursue a bio-chemistry or micro-biology degree. This will look great on any med school applications, and will give you the groundwork to reach your goals.
As far as high school, make sure that you take care of the sciences - do well in chemistry and biology. But the most important advice is to get into a respectable college (you don't have to go to a "world's best" school for undergrad) and keep your GPA up.
Good luck!
Q: Does anybody know how much money is spent on research in diabetes in America each year?
writing a research report on medical advances in the field of diabetes and i would just like to know... if you have a source can you please post it.
thanks.
A: Research costs would be found on the American Diabetes Association web site.
The total economic impact of diabetes as of 2006 (The latest released figures) was 176 billion dollars.
Q: What is the status of Diabetes research for 2008?
Though-out the past couple of years, new cases of diabetes has risen and I was wondering if anyone knew... if they are still trying to find a cure for it. This is very important to me and thank you for your help...
A: Now that Obama is pushing more scientific research, including stem cell, we should get a push in research. Last year it was revealed that diabetics who had gastric bypass surgery (not just lap band) were about 87% likely to lose their diabetes. Based on that, my father had it January 15. He immediately went off the pills, and though he's still been taking insulin, just last night he forgot, and his blood sugar this morning was only 113! Before, he was often at 200, even with the medication (he's also lost almost 60 pounds!).
Q: Has anybody ever participated in diabetes research?
My fiance is thinking about participating in diabetes research and I'm a little bit hesitant about it. It is a phase I trial, meaning they're testing it for safety. He's 23 years old. The trial is using 2 drugs, both already approved by the FDA, together. I can't remember what the 2 drugs are, but their safety has never been tested when they are taken together. I'm proud of him for helping in this research, but I'm nervous..
A: I have studied Diabetes in a health class. It's a completely manageable disease, so I'm sure those drugs can't be too harmful. It's normal to be nervous, simply because you know that there could be dangers. But I'm sure he will be fine! He's a good man for doing this. And you're a good fiancee for worrying! I hope it all goes well, like I'm sure it will.
Q: would Diabetes research be a good pageant platform?
I do't have it but I know alot of people who do includeig a kidergarteer who has had it since he was 2.
A: Definitely! It's a serious issue and not overused. Good luck!
Q: What is the percentage of the amount of money being spent on diabetes research in the world?
A: .0001%
Q: How do I include my opinion in a research paper on Diabetes type B?
How do I include my opinion in a research paper if I cannot use first person?
I don't know what kind of opinion to put in it either. My teacher requires us to include my own opinion in this research (MLA format) for Diabetes type B. I really don't know what opinion to put, or how to put it.
Does anyone have ideas? :D
A: You can word it like this:
Diabetes can decrease a person's energy (your opinion - I have no idea if it is true). Source A says .... and source B says ... (facts which back up your opinion.)
In general you will state your opinion as a fact and then back it up with your research. For help on writing a MLA formatted paper Purdue University has a great website: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/
Your local library can also help you find sources.

A: YES! they are cutting funding for all medical research! They are cutting funding for treatment of any "chronic condition" treatment in Medicade and Medicare. They are recommending that the insurance companies also cut funding for treatment for "chronic conditions".
